I was lucky enough to attend Boardmasters this weekend (10th-15th August). I was hesitant about going because of the 6 hour drive there and because there wasn’t anyone on the line-up I was desperate to see.
I managed to catch Wolf Alice, Primal Scream, Kano and Michael Kiwanuka – all who I was an existing fan of, however I also saw a few acts I would of never chosen to see or haven’t heard of which is what festivals is all about isn’t it?
Side note: I am not a deadmau5 fan but their set was incredible, I surprisingly really enjoyed myself. Sitting in top of strangers shoulders, waving flags, making friends and dancing like I was their biggest fan.
However, although it is technically a music festival Boardmasters has a twist – it’s on the beach (pretty much) we headed down to Fistral beach most days to catch the Surf, Skate and BMX competitions and relax, which resulted in me returning the colour of a lobster. I love festivals but this incorporated all good factors of a mic festival with the relaxation of a real getaway , I didn’t come back in need of a holiday, I had a good nap and I was good to go.
Being able to escape to the beach gave a much more relaxed vibe to the festival. I will definitely be returning.
9/10 would recommend.
